Dehydration of sensitive substances like biological samples, high value chemicals, vaccines etc. under vacuum in a closed chamber or smaller vials connected to a vacuum system. It is similar to freeze drying but in lab scale.

Vacuum helps in removing the small amounts of moisture left over in the samples after reaction.
Vacuum Filtration
Vacuum helps in creating the pressure difference between atmosphere and the container. Solvent/sample is made to pass through filtration paper kept over the conical flasks.
